Campaign Calendar

Suggested calendar for campaign committees.

6-9 months before ballots are mailed

  • Form your committee
  • Develop a fundraising plan
  • Conduct polling (if budget allows)
  • Begin website development or updating
  • Develop steering committee team
  • Create letterhead/remits

3 months before ballots are mailed

  • Website should be ready to go
  • Speakers’ bureau is booking speaking engagements
  • Fundraising is occurring
  • Handouts are made
  • Presentations are ready
  • Train triads of principals, PTA/parent representatives, teacher representatives.
  • Begin regular email communication with triads and committee
  • Buttons, car signs are given away
  • Begin collecting endorsements

Ballots are mailed

  • Letters to the editor, newspaper articles, and/or op-ed’s should run 1-3 weeks before ballots are mailed
  • Persuasion calls are made about 2 weeks before ballots are mailed
  • Begin mailing target audience 3-5 days before ballots are mailed
  • Signs go up 3-7 days before ballots are mailed
  • Newspaper ads run one week before ballots are mailed
  • Make get-out-the-vote (GOTV) calls after ballots are mailed
  • Send email /facebook plea – have people forward – one week before ballots are mailed
  • Letters to the editors

Week of election day

  • Honk & wave at sports events, busy intersections
  • Last GOTV calls

After election

  • Thank yous!  Write a letter to the editor thanking your team
  • Put thank you banners across yard signs
  • Document what the campaign did
  • Send campaign and district materials to the League of Education Voters School Levy & Bond Library at info@educationvoters.org to keep the library current
