It’s bond and levy campaign season again! Are you new to this? Trying to get your head around how to run a campaign? Worried about the economic climate? Want to learn how to use social media?

There are two excellent trainings available to you. These trainings are designed for campaign committees or individuals from committees to learn how to run a successful campaigns.

I’ve been going to these trainings for ten years, and I have found them valuable every single time.

Levies and bonds on the Nov. 2 ballot

Encourage your friends and family to vote for kids and schools on your Nov. 2nd ballot. Although levies now require a simple majority vote, school bonds still need a 60 percent supermajority to pass.

Aug. 17th primary election results

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction has released unofficial results from the Aug. 17th primary election.

Maintenance and Operations Levies

Edmonds SD – 54.14%
Everett SD – 50.29%
Granite Falls SD – 44.65%
Marysville SD – 41.81%
Northshore – 53.12%
Ocean Beach – 51.09%
Riverview – 51.04%

Bonds

Orcas Island SD – 46.18%

Supplemental levies on the Aug. 17th Primary Ballot

State budget cuts have severely impacted public education. More and more, local school districts are relying on voter-approved levies to provide a basic education for their students.

Faced with teacher layoffs and rising costs, some school districts will ask voters to approve a supplemental levy this year. These school districts will have levies on the Aug. 17th Primary ballot.

Communities passing their school levies

Across the state, a majority of communities are passing their levies thanks to the hard work of volunteers. Despite these tough economic times, voters showed that they care deeply about their public schools. And, simple majority for school levies made a difference in many elections.

Our kids are counting on us. The successful renewal of school levies and passage of bonds on February 9, 2010 are critical for the basic operation and safety of our schools. Find out more information about your school’s levy and/or bond by visiting your school district’s website.

You can also make a tremendous difference by volunteering or contributing to your local levy or bond campaign committee.

Using the School Levy & Bond Library

The League of Education Voters School Levy & Bond Library is a library of campaign materials donated by levy and bond campaigns across Washington State. It is a free resource for levy and bond campaign volunteers.

Before you get started browsing the Levy Library, there are a few things you should know; please click here to look at a few simple rules. By using the Levy Library, you are acknowledging that you have read and agree to comply with these rules.

The League of Education Voters Levy Library is organized into three main areas:

Campaign Structure: materials to help get your campaign organized, including plans, calendars, and recruitment materials;

Fundraising: materials for raising funds to run a campaign, including fundraising letters, thank you letters, and donation envelopes; and

Voter Outreach: materials created by campaign committees used to communicate with voters, including mailers, advertisements, fact sheets, and phone bank supplies.

Links to each of these sections can always be found at the top of the page.

Remember, the Levy Library is only as good as the materials in it. Please use it wisely and thoughtfully. Most important, please donate samples of the materials you create for your own campaign.
